In the latest episode of Chain Reaction, the program that tackles key topics shaping the public agenda and daily life and airs every Friday evening, the Jeffrey Epstein case—which shook global public opinion—was brought back into focus with new allegations and striking statements.
On the program moderated by Seda Öğretir, Epstein’s trial process, the sentences he received, the controversies surrounding his death, long-suppressed allegations, as well as political implications and legal proceedings were discussed in detail.
“IF THE GOAL HAD BEEN TO PUNISH THE PERPETRATORS, THE PROCESS WOULD NOT HAVE PROCEEDED THIS WAY”
Guest attorney Lerzenur Elik emphasized that crimes had been covered up for more than 20 years and underlined that the process had not advanced in a fair manner.
“If the real goal had been to punish the perpetrators, these crimes would not have been protected for 20 years; they would have been exposed and the individuals prosecuted,” said Elik. She continued:
“The process appears likely to take shape according to the political climate in the United States. Even Epstein himself, whose name defines this case, did not receive proper punishment. It is no coincidence that other names have been covered up and pushed into the background. I do not believe this file will proceed in accordance with the law.”
“NORWAY’S DECISION SHOULD SET A PRECEDENT FOR OTHER COUNTRIES”
Attorney Lerzenur Elik also highlighted an important development in the case, referring to Norway’s recent move:
“Within the scope of this file, the immunity of Norway’s former prime minister was lifted and a detention order was issued against him. This is the first bureaucrat detained in connection with this case. Norway has taken a very significant step in this regard. I hope it sets a precedent for other countries.”
Elik also addressed the commonly perceived offender profile in sexual crimes, issuing a critical warning particularly regarding child abuse.
“In sexual crimes, especially child abuse, there is no specific offender profile,” said Elik. “In other types of crimes, you may be able to make predictions by looking at a person. But in child sexual abuse cases, this is not possible. There are no shared characteristics. Therefore, the association of very prominent and well-known figures with such crimes does not surprise me, based on my professional experience.”
DETAILS REGARDING THE AUTOPSY FINDINGS WERE ALSO DISCUSSED
Attorney Lerzenur Elik noted that Epstein not being charged with murder while alive pointed to a form of protection. She added that although conditions changed during the legal process and public pressure increased, the case ultimately ended with the official statement that Epstein had committed suicide in prison.
Program moderator Seda Öğretir also shared an important development regarding Epstein’s death. She reported that forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden stated that the autopsy findings pointed more toward homicide than suicide, and that the three separate fractures detected in Epstein’s neck represented an unprecedented situation in his professional career.
“THE POSSIBILITY THAT EPSTEIN WAS MURDERED IS HIGH”
In response, Elik recalled that objections had been raised from the very first day regarding Epstein’s death and said:
“Even in the early days, his lawyers argued that this was not suicide but murder. However, so much has been covered up in this file. Today, there are even theories claiming that Epstein is still alive; that does not seem logical to me. The possibility that he was murdered, however, is very high. Because if such grave crimes are protected and concealed to this extent, we are talking about a much greater power at play. No one protects the perpetrator of a crime this intensely—directly or indirectly—unless they are involved.”
Attorney Lerzenur Elik concluded her remarks with a question directed at the public:
“What I truly wonder is this: Why has all of this been published today?”
The views expressed during the program suggested that the Epstein file goes far beyond individual crimes, pointing instead to a global power structure and a broader mechanism of concealment.
