While the escalating tension between Iran and the USA continues, the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit points, has once again become the center of the international agenda.
Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, Ibrahim Azizi, announced that a new transit mechanism is being worked on to regulate ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Azizi stated that the prepared system will be announced to the public in a short time.
Stating that within the scope of the new regulation, only commercial ships and parties acting in cooperation with Iran can benefit from this application, Azizi also said that a fee will be charged for the special services to be offered.
On the other hand, Iranian state television claimed that some European countries were in contact with the Tehran administration regarding the passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The news claimed that European countries also started the negotiation process with the Revolutionary Guard navy, especially after the passage of ships linked to China, Japan and Pakistan.
However, details regarding which European countries held talks were not shared. It is stated that the impact of the developments in the Strait of Hormuz on global energy supply and oil prices is being closely followed.
