New details have emerged regarding the operation carried out by Mexican security forces that resulted in the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho.”

Mexico’s Ministry of Defense announced that the operation was planned with “additional information” provided by U.S. intelligence.
According to a report published by The New York Times, Defense Minister Ricardo Trevilla Trejo stated that Cervantes’ location was identified after a secret meeting he held with his girlfriend.
Identified Through Another Individual
Trejo said that the identity of Cervantes’ girlfriend was determined through another individual.
He explained that after Cervantes left a house located in a forested area in Tapalpa, in the state of Jalisco, authorities conducted interrogations and confirmed that Cervantes had been present at the residence.
Security forces then surrounded the area, and the region reportedly came under heavy gunfire during the operation.
Cervantes was seriously wounded in the clash and died while being transported to a hospital, according to officials.
Authorities also shared that among the seized equipment were rocket launchers with the technical capability to destroy armored vehicles and shoot down aircraft.
