TRNC female athletes achieved remarkable success on the first day of the 2026 World Budo Cup held in Baku. Competing in the Hyong/Kata discipline, our athletes became champions by winning a total of 12 medals: 5 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze.
In the competitions held on Saturday, May 16, the performance of the TRNC athletes received great appreciation. The matches were also followed by Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Baku, Ufuk Arca Turganer, TRNC Ambassador to Azerbaijan, and diplomats from both embassies.

The achievement at the World Cup, where the TRNC participated with its own flag and identity, created great pride within the country’s sports community. Our athletes earned significant rankings with their outstanding performances in the Hyong/Kata discipline.
The medal-winning athletes are as follows:
Cansu Keskin: 2 gold medals
Melek Ünver: 2 gold medals
Ceyda Uçaner: 1 gold and 1 silver medal
Zehra Karip: 1 silver and 1 bronze medal
Hayrünnisa İkinci: 2 silver medals
Eylül Ceryan: 1 silver and 1 bronze medal
With these results, TRNC female athletes achieved a major success on the first day of the World Budo Cup by winning a total of 12 medals.

At the opening ceremony of the competitions, SGM Eyüp Zafer Gökbilen, President of the World Budo Federation, the ambassadors of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and the TRNC, and Cemal Yangın, President of the Azerbaijan Budo Federation, each delivered speeches. During the speeches, success was wished to the athletes, while the organization was emphasized as an important gathering in terms of friendship, discipline and sports culture.
This important achievement by TRNC female athletes at the World Budo Cup brought pride to our country on the international stage.
