The visa waiver issue was among the topics discussed during high-level meetings between U.S. officials and the Greek Cypriot side in Washington, according to coverage by the Associated Press (AP).
American and Cypriot officials met as part of ongoing strategic dialogue efforts, focusing on regional security in the Eastern Mediterranean, defense cooperation, and energy partnerships. Within this broader diplomatic framework, the possibility of Cyprus joining the U.S. Visa Waiver Program was also addressed.
Part of a Broader Strategic Dialogue
AP reported that relations between Washington and the Greek Cypriot administration have deepened in recent years, particularly in the areas of security coordination and regional stability.
While the visa waiver topic was discussed, no formal decision has been announced. Any potential inclusion in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program would require compliance with strict technical and security criteria set by U.S. authorities.
No Official Approval Yet
The U.S. Visa Waiver Program allows eligible countries to travel to the United States for tourism or short-term business stays of up to 90 days without obtaining a traditional visa.
At this stage, there has been no official confirmation that Cyprus has been admitted to the program. The matter remains under diplomatic and technical evaluation.
