It was reported that Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles targeted various points in Moscow and a fire broke out at the oil refinery in the Kapotnya region.
While flights were disrupted at the capital’s three airports due to the attacks, Russia announced that 555 UAVs were shot down during the night.
It was reported that the oil refinery in the Kapotnya region of the city was targeted in the large-scale attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles against Moscow. While a fire broke out in the refinery, dense smoke rising into the sky caused panic in the city. Due to the attacks, flights were temporarily stopped at airports in Moscow.
In the images shared on social media, three separate smoke columns were seen rising from the area where the refinery is located. It was stated that the attack was Ukraine’s second operation against the same facility in the last two days.
In his statement following the previous attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski described the operations as “a fair response to Russian attacks.”
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that air defense systems “continues to repel the large-scale attack”He stated that some unmanned aerial vehicles managed to reach the Moscow Oil Refinery.
Sobyanin claimed that approximately 180 UAVs were allegedly heading towards the capital were shot down. He reported that in addition to the refinery, the Sadovod shopping center in southeast Moscow was also damaged in the attack.
According to Russian officials, at least seven UAVs bypassed air defense systems and reached targets within the city. In some images published on social media, it was seen that the upper floors of a high-rise building in the Zhukovsky district were hit.
FLIGHTS ARE STOPPED AT AIRPORTS
Following the attack, flight traffic was disrupted at Moscow’s Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports. It was reported that flights were temporarily stopped at Sheremetyevo Airport, passengers were evacuated and some people were kept waiting in the parking area.
According to reports based on sources from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, traffic was also stopped on the Moscow ring road near the refinery.
It was announced that high-rise residences, an industrial facility and many detached houses were damaged in the regions around Moscow.
It was claimed that the previous attack on the oil refinery in Moscow stopped the activities of the facility.
It has been reported that Russia, the world’s third largest oil producer, is preparing to import fuel by sea this month to fill the deficit following the attacks on refineries.
