US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff is heading to Switzerland to hold the first round of talks on a potential nuclear deal with Iran.
According to a report by Axios based on a US official, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is also currently in Switzerland for critical talks.
This critical meeting in Switzerland followed a series of diplomatic contacts aimed at reducing geopolitical risks in the region. The USA and Iran recently signed an agreement aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most critical transit points of global oil trade, to commercial traffic.
This agreement was recorded as the most concrete step that opened the door to direct dialogue between the parties.
Despite this agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, large-scale negotiations for a more comprehensive nuclear agreement were postponed due to regional military mobility and the process of clarifying the strategic positions of the parties.
Israel’s ongoing attacks in Lebanon were one of the main factors that caused the Iranian side to postpone the negotiations.
