Deutsche Bahn has announced that train services will be restricted until next week due to a cable fire on a railroad line, particularly affecting Berlin. According to the company, technical experts are working to repair the system, but the extent of the damage means repairs will continue through the weekend.
The fire, which happened in a railroad cable shaft in Berlin, has disrupted several signals and points between Berlin-Hauptbahnhof and Berlin-Spandau. This has led to restrictions on long-distance, regional, and S-Bahn services, with the Berlin-Spandau stop being cancelled.
A Deutsche Bahn spokesperson said that the main impact is nationwide delays. The company has ruled out a technical cause for the fire, with the S-Bahn division suggesting vandalism as the likely cause. The Berlin State Office of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation, according to the police.
Passengers are advised to plan for delays and check for updates as the situation develops.
