A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Brooklyn in February, the police said.
The man, Sheik Koureichi, who lives in Brooklyn, was arrested on Monday just before 1 p.m. after he was indicted on 13 charges, including two counts of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree reckless endangerment and 10 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Judge Kim Petersen of State Supreme Court in Brooklyn ordered Mr. Koureichi held without bail.
Mr. Koureichi was accused of aiding in the killing of Troy Gill, who was shot while walking home in Crown Heights after attending a Brooklyn Nets game at Barclays Center late on Feb. 29.
Mr. Koureichi is not believed to be the gunman, but an accomplice in the killing, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case who was not authorized to discuss its details publicly.
The police said the investigation was continuing. Mr. Koureichi’s lawyer, Arnold Levine, declined to comment.
Troy’s age and the circumstances around his shooting were especially shocking even in a neighborhood that had recently seen a spate of killings, including of young people. In May, 15 teenagers who the authorities said belonged to street gangs in Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant were charged after a wave of gun violence between rival gangs killed two 16-year-old boys and injured 10 others over a three-year period.
